9000 Needles Documentary

Whether you are an acupuncture practitioner, a stroke victim, or just interested in seeing the amazing effects of acupuncture, I recommend you watch this documentary. The story of Devin Dearth, a bodybuilder who had a stroke at 40 years of age. The failure of the American health insurance is what takes Devin on a journey to China for a twelve week treatment plan. I won’t spoil it with all of the details, but I will say that there are some heart-wrenching moments in this documentary, and the results of the acupuncture therapy are absolutely amazing.

You can find more dates for screenings on the 9000 Needles website, and there has been some talk about another screening in the Portland area in the near future. Keep checking back on the OAAOM website for details!

  1. Thanks for the information – this film looks really interesting. I’m hoping that it will come to London soon..

Stroke rehabilitation is one area that acupuncture and Chinese Medicine is far ahead of Western treatment.
One of my acupuncture tutors told us of a treatment for stroke induced aphasia that he saw in a TCM hospital in China. Thick acupuncture needles several inches long were inserted deep into the base of the tongue from a point on the neck close to the jawbone. The needles were then strongly manipulated. It sounds pretty painful, but the patient began to regain his speach within a few days.

It’s a real shame that acupuncture isn’t really being used in this way in the West.

    Hi!

My acupuncturist, Jim Martin, just told me “9000 Needles” was shown Sunday, Jan. 30 @ the Hollywood Theater.

I am VERY interested to see the next showing in Portland. Please, when & where will it be shown to the general public?

    Thank you!

    MANY Blessings,

  4. I have not seen this movie yet, but just ordered it from Amazon.

If stroke patients got acupuncture soon after the stroke, they would recover so fast. They usually wait until years later and it takes a very long time. It will still work though. I had a patient who had a stroke 10 years prior and we did improve his nerve function, it took a lot of treatments though. I did electro acupuncture on his legs.
